In reflecting on my own writing style lately I noticed I use quite a few similes.
I love them like a bear loves honey.
I use them like a chef uses salt to improve the meal.
I find them so useful to improve my writing and help keep it interesting. I wonder sometimes whether they distract the reader.
Perhaps they ruin the writing like an off note in a song.
Maybe they are unneeded like an umbrella on a sunny day.
But regardless, they tend to find their way into my writing and are simply part of the style I developed over many years of writing…
Like a fruity note in a wine
or like a tree that slowly bends towards the sun…
ok, fine, you get it.
